Scholarships
To help fund our mission, InkShield Initiative created a paid summer writing program designed to teach students how to write scholarship essays that actually stand a chance. If this works the way we think it will, we’ll add more courses in the fall and spring.
But let’s not forget why we’re doing this in the first place. Not every student can afford extra help.
Unfortunately, those are the ones who usually need it the most. That’s why we’ve reserved free seats in every session for students who just need someone in their corner. If you’re a high school student trying to figure out how to pay for college, we want to help you write an essay that gives you a fighting chance.
Seats are prioritized for
• First-generation college students
• Volunteers and community partners
• Families with financial need
Even if that’s not you, apply anyway. We help as many students as we can, and reading your application is part of how we decide.
Now, for my nontraditional brethren. If you’re over 24, working full-time, raising kids, or trying to go back to school after some time away, you’ve probably noticed that most scholarships weren’t written with you in mind. That’s not an oversight. That’s a problem. And we haven’t forgotten you, even if you forget a few things now and then. We’re older. It happens. Don’t be so sensitive.
Each session, we’ll hold back at least one VIP seat to fund a cash scholarship for an adult learner. Because just like the others, you deserve a shot too.
